Venus: 21 May 2004
| Venus is now putting in
a sprint and catching up with the Sun fast.
She is very close to us (diameter: 50.5"), very bright (magnitude: -4.3), and very slender (illumination: 9.6%). These images were taken between 18:40h and 19:00h BST (in the daylight) using a Nikon Coolpix 5700 digital camera handheld (afocal) through the eyepieces of a 114mm reflector telescope. The large image was through a 32mm Plossl eypiece + 2x barlow lens and the smaller images were through a 15mm Plossl + 2x Barlow. The small right-hand image gives the best impression of how thin, and large, Venus is and what was seen through the eyepiece. |
